This series teaches useful skills to manage overwhelming feelings and intense anxiety by focusing on keeping yourself in the present. Meditation can be a useful tool for your teen's life to learn how to naturally decrease stress & anxiety as well as develop confidence & an internal balance.

Groups will meet biweekly at The Healing Center for Children, Adults & Families (310 Maxwell Rd Suite 100, Alpharetta, GA, 30316)

Prerequisite: Meditation 101

This series is open to adolescents ages 14-18.

 FAQs:

1. What should I bring? What should I wear?
You should bring a cushion or pillow that you find comfortable to sit on. However, we have large collection to choose from as well, so don't worry if you forget! You may also like to bring a blanket or a water bottle. We recommend that you wear comfortable or stretchy clothing and socks as well since this will be a no-shoes event. You may want to bring a jacket or sweater if you're the cold-blooded type.

2. Where will this be held?
We hold all of our meditation classes in the main room of The Healing Center for Children, Adults and Families. Saturday mornings are dedicated to our meditation series, so there will be no in and out traffic at the office!

3. How long is each class? Will be sitting quietly the entire time?
Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes.. That may seem like a lot, but many of our participants can attest that the time flies by! The meditation that we will be doing will include breaks, some talking, some meditation, some more talking. It's a lot more varied than you may initially expect!

4. How many other participants will be there?
This varies, sometimes you can expect a full class and other times we have lower numbers due to the time of year. Summer classes get full very quickly, whereas classes during the school year can be a bit smaller. However, we will never hold a class without at least 3 participants and our max size is 8 participants.

5. Can I pay for just a few classes? Do I have to go/pay for the entire series?

Just as with any skill, meditation requires practice and repetition. The reason why we do this as a series rather than on a class-by-class basis is for you to get the most out of it. You will not gain many benefits if you choose to meditate only once or twice. This is why we highly encourage you to meditate not only during class, but at home as well. Additionally, we purposely structured our Teen Meditation Group to meet biweekly as we understand your schedules are highly variable!

6. I've never tried meditation before, what if I don't like it? Can I go to the first class and decide after?
Unfortunately our class size is limited, so we expect full commitment before joining a series. However, we do offer a one-evening introduction to meditation (Meditation 101) that you are more than welcome to attend first! This 1..5 hr class will introduce you to mediation and will give you an idea of what to expect in our series. Parents are encouraged to attend this class as well!
